Would love to Return: ”We enjoyed every minute of our stay at Casa da Figueira. The house is charming and comfortable - it had everything we needed. Thank you Sophie for opening your house to us. We'd love to return again one day." - Kerri & Goncalo, Toronto Canada

P3_SideView.jpgAmelia is a truly a Jewel:Our 3 week stay at Casa da Figueira was perfect for our family; the front yard was great for playing with the kids and the fact that the pool is in a separate secure area is great when you have young kids.  Most of all, Amelia, your housekeeper, truly is a jewel: sweet, friendly and non-intrusive; she even got an old wine stain out of my favorite shirt!  I don't know if she does this for everyone, but she did our laundry and dishes too!  My wife was VERY pleased with all that.  Most villas in our experience do not come with that level of service and I don't think we paid extra for it... but if we were to factor that in to our decision making process, for the same price we would always pick your villa over one without an "Amelia" or even pay an extra $200 per week, because with her doing all that for us, it made it a real vacation form my wife.  To sum up, we spent the same money last year to stay a month in Florida. Let’s just say we will never be going back to Florida! We are already talking about coming back to Casa da Figueira next year." Ned Loughrey, Canada

Perfect Location
”We found Casa da Figueira a very pleasant and quite place to stay and relax. But what Beachmakes it really special is the location! In 2 minutes you walk to the beach, but if you prefer unspoiled nature (as we do) you can make superb bicycle-trips in the hills around Luz and discover the original Portuguese country-site just ½ hour away from “home”. And the times we didn’t feel like BBQ at the pool-site, we loved Lagos in the evening, offering dozens of nice places for dining and meeting people.”

We want to go right back to Casa da Figueria
"We just came back from Praia da Luz. If it was possible, we would go back right now! We had a perfect week, and all our great expectations came true! Casa da Figueiera was amazing! And the beach so near by was a dream. Our flight was delayed, so we arrived very late, but the next morning when we woke up, was like we were dreaming. Sacha saw a giant cactus when she opened her eyes, and I saw the blue sky! And then wandering around the property and see the extremely blue Atlantic for the first time...... Incredible! Also Amalia was great. What a treasure! Conclusion: we probably will be back another time! And when I showed the photos at work, everyone wanted the address of the website, so don't be surprised when you receive more bookings from Holland than other years. Best regards an hoping for another stay at your home."

Most Enjoyable & Relaxing Vacation in My Life
"
We had such an incredible time. I can't even begin to focus my thoughts in a logical direction. Your villa is charming, and obviously taken care of with a lot of love and attention. Amelia was wonderful, very helpful, and very patient with our questions. November was perfect, I can't imagine ever going there at any other time of year. No crowds, the weather was perfect, and the views were stunning. We walked everywhere, took tons of pictures, and ate at pretty much all the places you mentioned. My husband went diving in Lagos, and all the guys went golfing up the road. We found the cork shop at the other end of the village, and we got used to orange egg yolks. We checked out all of Luz. We found the bakery and the soup shop. Quejadas were declared our breakfast food.

We took a ride down to the fort in Sagres, and spent a day in Tavira exploring. That was an incredible crash course in history. We took plenty of pictures of the bridges, fort and churches. We climbed the mini mountain behind Casa da Figueira and walked all the way around it. That was more than enough exercise for me, but would not have missed it because the views and changing colors were perfect. By mid week, the guys were checking out the "for sale" signs and comparing prices. We met all kinds of people, who were very kind. Needless to say we are not an overly quiet group, animated conversation being the norm, so at all the restaurants we went to, the owners came over and talked with us. Lots of stories were shared, and lots of advice was given.
We were very surprised to find the beach being dog friendly which was great. We also had a person at the beach who made sand sculptures every day.BBQ2.JPG

There are so many other things we experienced on this trip that I am sure I am forgetting. In short, I have never had such a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable vacation in my life. We all had a wonderful time and would consider doing it again."

Beautiful Fall Holiday
Fisher boat lagos“Late October 2006 our family of six stayed at Casa da Figueira. The close proximity of the beautiful sandy beach and the large heated pool made it an ideal vacation spot. The home was extremely comfortable and clean, had all the necessary luxuries, and a daily friendly cleaning lady kept it in top-notch condition. We’ll turn this vacation into a yearly tradition.”

Our 4th Visit: ”This was our 4th visit to Casa da Figueira and it hasn't lost it's charm since our first stay in 1987! Praia da Luz has grown since then but remains a fantastic location for a family holiday. Have had some lovely meals our including two trips up to Monchique area for Piri-Piri chicken. Amalia has been lovely." - Hamilton Family, UK

“Lovely villa, lovely resort, lovely food, lovely weather and a lovely lady, Amelia, who looked after us so well. We’ve had a wonderful week in Villa da Figueira.”

Excellent
“This is our sixth visit to Portugal: weather excellent, food superb, pool a big hit. Villa is secluded and tranquil, service fine. “

In Heaven "We were in heaven for a couple of weeks with an angel (Amelia) to look after us! Blue sky and sunshine every day. It is such a beautiful house (Casa) and the garden is fantastic. Swam many times a day. Sampled lots of restaurants. Hiked up the hill. Even getting to Portugal from Boston was easy with Azores Airlines. One of our best vacations ever."

Home away from Home
“Casa da Figueira is all that we had hoped for. It is a lovely villa, a real home from home.”

Something for Everyone
Golf"The Casa da Figueira is very pleasantly decorated with tasteful furniture and art.  The large enclosed garden is beautiful, and it is lovely to spent time among the many plants, trees and flowers. How amazing is it to be able to use a freshly-picked lemon from the garden on your fish or salad. Praia da Luz is a small village with narrow traffic-free streets. The house is walking distance from the ocean and the beach. I recall many nice spring evenings enjoying the large fireplace in the living room. The house has enough space and rooms for a large family. There are plenty of things to do for everyone: from running on the nearby rocks and mountains, playing on the large beach, enjoying the frequent flee markets, to playing golf in the many golf courses nearby. Everyone will enjoy this wonderful place. I hope to go back many times.”

Quiet Oasis
“I stayed at Casa Figueira last December. I just fell in love with the place. It was warm and sunny each day and we had the beach to ourselves. Casa Figueira is an amazing villa with the enclosed yard and the pool serving as a quiet private oasis. It is walking distance from the large sandy beach and the cozy Luz village. Nature trails with gorgeous views hang up above the cliffs. Also a few steps away are superb restaurants serving Portugese delicacies and great local wines. The daily maid service is exceptional. There is always something magic about plucking your own oranges and clementines directly from the trees in the villa right before eating them. I would definitely recommend a week or two at Casa Figueira for those of you that seek to slow down and enjoy a relaxing vacation the way it was meant to be.”

Lovely April Vacation
“Casa da Figueira was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in.  The house was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable with modern bathrooms.  The private pool area was lovely and accessible through two sets of French doors from the living and dining areas of the house.  The garden was like one of those quiet places in botanical gardens with paths and places to sit.  We had a two minute walk to the beach and shops, and a larger shop, post office, restaurants, and churches were within easy walking distance. From the house we could walk to hiking trails that took us up and along the tops of the nearby hills and cliffs, with breathtaking views in every direction. The people were friendly and the food was excellent and reasonably priced.  It took about 10 minutes to drive to Lagos, the nearest larger town, and about an hour or less to drive to places of historical interest such as Cape St. Vincent (the End of the World) and Silves.  We would definitely like to go back sometime.”

Over-wintering in Algarve Fig tree
“My husband and I have been coming to the Algarve in the Spring or the Fall for many years. Each time we get a healthy portion of sun and exercise: swimming in the heated swimming pool, walking up the surrounding hills, jogging along the beach, or playing golf at the many excellent golf-courses. Casa da Figueira, the cozy family-house is our preferred resort with all the comfort of our own home: air conditioning, a woodburning stove, the cable television to watch our local Belgian news, a well-equipped kitchen, the large fenced garden where my grandchildren and our 3 dogs can play safely. The nearby city of Lagos (from where Columbus left to discover America), has a gorgeous fish-market, plenty of picturesque shops and restaurants with delicious food: grilled fish fresh out of the sea, fruits and vegetables grown in the sun, remarkable bakeries. Definitely the right spot for over-wintering: it never snows nor freezes in Luz. Fall passes into Spring with the first blossoms of the almond-trees already blooming in January”

Spending January and February in Casa Figueira
"We just arrived home, we had an absolutely wonderful time, staying in your beautiful villa, it surpassed all our expectations, the gardens and outdoor areas, were so lovely, we enjoyed meals in the sun, and the closeness of everything, beach shops restaurants etc.
The weather was so warm it felt so good to have the sun on our backs. The kitchen was so well equipped, a chefs delight! The villa offered every possible comfort, with lovely beds, and lovely linen and towels. Amelia was there to help where necessary, she was so pleasant and helpful. So now we sit in very low temps in England in February, dreaming of the holiday!!  Thank you very much"   The_Swinells, England
